Professional Residential Roofing Installation Company in Springfield Illinois
We have provided Springfield, Illinois and surrounding communities with quality roofing products and installation since 1946.
When to Replace a Roof?
This is the biggest question that most homeowners struggle to answer. There are many variables to consider.
Does a new roof increase home value?
Maybe you have noticed that sellers always refer to the age of a newer roof as a selling point.
On the other hand, the roof isn’t mentioned on the sale sheet when it’s older. Many insurance companies are forcing their insured to replace old worn out roofs or face being dropped. So, the answer is most definitely yes, a new roof does increase the value of your home.
Should I Stay Home During Roof Replacement?
We recommend that you stay inside if you are going to be home.
While our crews are professional and aware of their surroundings, sometimes debris or tools can fall from the roof during removal or installation. It’s never a good idea to be hanging around during those times. Staying in the house is totally fine. The same goes for pets. All pets should be taken elsewhere or left inside if they are able to handle the noise coming from above.
Roof Repair or Replacement
We have been offering Springfield roofing services since 1946. We have learned a great deal over those years.
One thing we learned is that we shouldn’t volunteer to fix other contractor’s mistakes. That is why we made a decision a few years ago to stop offering roof repair services unless we installed the roof for the customer. Our reason is simple. Most people don’t call the roofer that installed their roof to make a repair. In many cases they have no idea who installed the roof, or maybe the Illinois roofing contractor they hired is now out of business. There is no way to tell what lurks under the shingles sometimes. When someone is called to fix a leak, that person is assuming all the liability and will continue to get calls if the leak persists. Instead, we like to provide an estimate for total or partial replacement. That’s because we can guarantee our work and stand by it.
The Benefits of a New Roof
A new roof increases the value of your home, we know that for sure. There are other benefits that may not be as readily apparent.
For instance, the roofing materials today are far superior to the roofing materials twenty years ago. Asphalt shingles have come a very long way. Our manufacturer is guaranteeing the shingles we use to last fifty years. Isn’t that amazing? Of course that requires a professional installation, proper ventilation, proper flashing and underlayment, etc. Plus, the colors offered today are completely different than what was offered years ago. Today, you can select from HD colors that really pop! Roof cleaning used to be an issue too. Seeing those black streaks on any roof is a huge disappointment. Our shingle manufacturer addresses that head on with algae resistant shingles that will clean themselves with every rain event.
Getting your roof replaced is a major deal. Luckily for our customers, we are in and out very quickly.
Roofs are measured in squares. A roofing square is a 10’ by 10’ area. Our crews have been known to knock out a 30sq roof in a day. That includes tearing off the old roof, picking up all the debris and placing it in the dumpster, and then installing the new roof. It’s not because they rush through it. Instead, it’s because each crew has enough men to get the job done efficiently and effectively. They know what they are doing and they are focused. So instead of roof replacement being a huge inconvenience for a couple of weeks, our crews typically condense that to a maximum of 48 hours on a regular sized shingled roof.
Sutton’s does not offer lay-over roofing services. There are a couple of reasons why.
One, when we lay new shingles over the old, we have no idea what condition the deck is in. We don’t know what the underlayment or flashing looks like. We don’t know if there are spots where leaks have formed and instead of addressing the roof leak at the source, we are laying a new shingle over the top. The other reason is that a second layer of shingles is really heavy. That is a lot of extra weight for the framing of our house to hold. So in the event of a storm or a tree branch falling, the framing is already under twice the amount of pressure because of the extra weight. Proper ventilation can be an issue as well. That is why we made the decision a long time ago to tear the roof off down to the sheathing. Then inspect the sheathing to make sure it’s worthy of a new roofing system. Then proceeding with the installation. That way, we can guarantee the whole thing.
We Are GAF Master Elite Roofers
What does it mean to be a GAF Master Elite Roofer? For starters, it provides every client with peace of mind when hiring a GAF Master Elite Certified Contractor.
GAF Master Elite Roofer status is a factory certification program that only 2% of roofing contractors in the nation are awarded. Sutton’s is in the top 2% and they are in your backyard. The program offers continued training so that installers stay current in their trade. Some of the other factors considered are proper insurance and licensing, the financial stability of the contractor, and the amount of call backs and reviews. Sutton’s crushes the competition in all of those categories. So for the customer, hiring a GAF Master Elite Roofer provides an extra layer of security and confidence they can’t get anywhere else.
Do I Need A New Roof?
Your roof is the most important part of your home. While it’s easy to take your roof for granted and never think about it, make no mistake that when it fails all of the contents are at risk.
Staying on top of it is always best so you don’t have to add costly interior repairs to the cost of a new roof. When it comes to evaluating your roof, there are some specific signs to look for. Things like:
- Leaks in your attic appear after a rainstorm
- The paint outside starts to peel
- The interior ceilings and walls show stains
- Shingles or siding are decaying, cracking, or missing
We live in an area that experiences extreme weather so it’s important to inspect your roof on an annual basis.
Don’t wait until it’s too late. You can inspect your roof yourself by climbing onto the roof or by standing on the ground and inspecting with binoculars. Here is what to look for:
- Damaged flashing
- Damaged soffit or fascia
- Missing or cracked shingles
- Exposed nails
- Open seams or joints
- Signs of insect or animal damage
- Rotten fascia (wood)
- Clogged roof ventilation
- Clogged gutters
- Dark patches or biological growth
- Damaged pipes and pipe boots
- Leaks or dark spots in your attic
- Sagging Areas
